AAACK! - Halloween 2013

It's almost time for one of the best holidays of the year, Halloween!  Whether you plan on getting dressed up and going Trick-or-Treating, or staying in to receive the Treaters, we have what you need this season to make it fun.  From decorations to costumes to gifts to candy, we have it in-store!

A few of the cute-if-not-spooky items on our mantle.

Some clever bottle stoppers to be used for décor or to re-cork that cab sauv that spiced up the cauldron.  The little witch hats are perfect for the apothecary.

Here our plush raccoon buddy models one of the spider headbands.  All of the headbands are lined in soft velvety fabric so they are comfortable to wear to the all-night Monster Mash!

Another headband look, this one is insanely meta when you think about it: a headband on top of your head that IS a head WITH A HAT ON.  So many layers and before you get them all figured out, the entire headband LIGHTS UP and blows what fragments were left of your brain out the spook house window.  More for the zombies!

A decorative skull models another light-up headband design of meta-witchy proportions.  Also those little pumpkins in the photo are our locally-made hand soaps that make a really cute gift.

That witchy headband has a matching shimmer light that will tower over your other spooky-themed shimmer lights and create quite a light show on an eerie autumn evening.

We've got some great outdoor decorations to attract easy prey I mean Trick-or-Treaters to your haunted mansion.  These twirling wind catchers come as witches or skeletons.  Stop in to see our Gigantic ghosts, too!

This seasonal silk arrangement is scary, but in a pretty sort of way.  It really wants to be covered in fake cobwebs and set alongside a serving table full of individually-wrapped candy and bowls of peeled grapes.

Some cute serving plates with sinful phrases on them, as well as one of our cute ghost vases and a decorative plate.  Wickedly charming!

This Jack-o-Lantern plugs in and will never burn out, rot, catch fire, get smashed or come to life and stalk you with a butcher knife.  I can promise this is true of 4 of 5 of those things.....

Well we are known for doing flowers, so here's a few pictures of our recent design work, starting with a fun Fall-inspired arrangement with a big sparkly spider to celebrate Halloween.

A very simple treat that will not trick.

A wonderful bouquet of Fall colors and textures including red and orange alstromeria, orange roses, solidago, cattails, and an awesome orange-red dahlia.

Our Holiday Open House is right around the corner, so the shop will only be looking Spooktacular for another few weeks.  Be sure you drop in to see, its a SCREAM!

Pride Fest Wedding Fashion Show

Now that same-sex couples will be getting legally married in Minnesota starting August 1st, its time to start planning your event!  We participated in a fashion show at the Pride Fest in Loring Park over the weekend to show off some of the things we do for personal flowers for weddings.  This tropical-inspired headdress and boutonniere combo is a great example of the creative use of color and texture we pride ourselves on.

To match, we made up a large neck-piece with the same orchids, carnations and craspedia used in the boutonniere and headdress.

Here we have a beautiful and creative bridal bouquet with matching boutonniere featuring white curcuma, coxcomb, hydrangea, statice, leucadendron, millet, fatsia leaf, and lily grass.

A close-up of the bridal bouquet shows the intricate detail and texture.

Whether your ceremony has 2 brides, 2 grooms, or some other assorted pair, we will be sure to make your special day beautiful.  Come see us for a consultation!

Mother's Day 2013

This Sunday is Mother's Day, and the shop is totally full of fresh flowers, plants, and fun gifts for all the moms in your life.  We have been very busy getting ready, but we are always happy to help you choose just what will make mom feel extra special.  Above is a close-up view of our absolutely gorgeous orchids.

Zooming out we see some more of the orchids, phalaenopsis and dendrobium, in all the shades of pink, white, mauve and peach.  These look great on their own with a bit of green, or added to a mix of colorful fresh-cut flowers.

Rarely are we so buried in flowers but this special time of year, so please come take some of these off our hands!  Hydrangea, lilies, peonies and lots more.

We are cranking out the arrangements and the cooler is so stocked its hard to tell what flower is where in a photo.  The solution?  Come down and we will help you pick one out in person!

A few more cooler arrangements, from the traditionally pretty to the more unusual and interesting.  We are always more than happy to put something together custom-made as well!

Here's a whole slew of anthurium plants we have in-store at the moment, in 4 and 6 inch pots, and in red, pink and white.  These guys are so pretty and really easy to care for: they like lots of light, and will thrive when watered thoroughly after the soil becomes dry to the touch.  The best part is, the blooms just last and last, like our love for our mothers.

Here are some more plants: bloomers, greens, succulents, lucky bamboo, baskets and dish gardens, we have them all!

Here's a bird's eye view of the miniature world that is opened up in our new fairy gardens, planted with live plants that will fill in and make a forest of imagination.  Creative moms only, please!

This arrangement is so huge it pushes the boundaries of my usual staging area for taking photos.  It is also very fragrant with stargazers, Asiatic lilies, stock, delphinium, roses, and snapdragons.

Need more smells?  Make it even bigger and add more stargazers, the aromatic peonies that are just hitting their season thanks to our late spring, and fill in with snaps, larkspur, orchids, hydrangea, and gerbera daisies.  Your mom will love it, but she may not be able to lift it!

We are open our regular hours, 9-6 on Friday, and will be here for extended hours on Saturday and Sunday, 8-6 and 8-4, respectively.  If you can't make it in, we always take orders over the phone, 763-593-1777, or our toll-free number, 1-888-893-7950.

Art in Bloom 2013

Art in Bloom 2013 came to an end this Sunday, and we were really proud of how our display turned out.  With 13 commercial displays and over 160 individual participants, it was an awesome weekend of fun, flowers, fragrances and art in Minneapolis.  Here's a few shots of our work for those that couldn't make it down.  These bright yellow orchids were just huge in person!

Setting up the table.

The arrangement was huge and very heavy!  We could barely lift it into the pot.

Adding more flowers.

The finished display with the arrangements and plants around it.

Close-up of the arrangements that were for sale.

Thank you to everyone who made the event possible, the amazing volunteers at the gift shop who were all huge helpers, and everyone who made it down to see it!  We can't wait 'til next year!
